Mississauga, Ontario – February 3, 2010 – The Ontario workplace health and safety system, comprising of four newly amalgamated organizations – Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA), Health and Safety Association for Government Services (HSAGS), Safe Workplace Promotion Services Ontario (SWPSO), and Workplace Safety North (WSN) – is pleased to announce a new health and safety conference and trade show.

Partners in Prevention 2010: Ontario Health & Safety Conference & Trade Show takes place at the International Centre located at 6900 Airport Road in Mississauga, May 4 – 5, 2010, with a pre-conference program for small businesses and organizational leaders on May 3, 2010.

This inaugural event promises to deliver an engaging, interactive, and meaningful experience for all who attend. Partners in Prevention 2010 will provide delegates with opportunities to expand their health and safety knowledge, while developing practical tools and applications that will assist them in reducing injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in their workplaces. This progressive approach to health and safety demonstrates that being safe and healthy while on the job is everyone’s business and illustrates the significance of creating a national habit of safety.

Leading-edge sessions and workshops focusing on major hazards, healthy workplaces, ergonomics, and more, along with professional development courses and celebrated keynote speakers will round out the two days of unparalleled learning, knowledge exchange, and networking. In addition, the trade show will feature three shows co-locating with Partners in Prevention 2010.

The pre-conference program on May 3, 2010 will focus on two key areas: small businesses and organizational leaders. By attending the Small Business Forum, small businesses will uncover the value of health and safety through its connection to business sustainability and profitability. At the Leadership Summit, leaders will be engaged in learning how to evolve a healthy workplace from a health, safety, and environment initiative into a critical component of an organization’s culture.

About the Ontario Workplace Health and Safety System
The emotional and financial toll of 80 to 100 workplace fatalities each year and 1,600 workplace injuries each week* has spurred Ontario’s workplace health and safety system to undertake a critical assessment and restructuring of its programs and services, so it can better assist Ontario businesses in reducing the number of injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in their workplaces. As a result of these changes, 12 of the province’s health and safety associations have amalgamated to form four new organizations, effective January 1, 2010. Combined, these four organizations serve more than 236,000 Ontario businesses. The four new organizations are:

  • Health and Safety Association for Government Services (HSAGS)
    • Education Safety Association of Ontario (ESAO)
    • Municipal Health and Safety Association (MHSA)
    • Ontario Safety Association for Community and Healthcare (OSACH)
  • Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA)
    • Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO)
    • Electrical & Utilities Safety Association (E&USA)
    • Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO)
  • Safe Workplace Promotion Services Ontario (SWPSO)
    • Farm Safety Association (FSA),
    • Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA),
    • Ontario Service Safety Alliance (OSSA)
  • Workplace Safety North (WSN)
